Downtime and degraded production from process disturbances and trips are major costs to the process industry. Adverse events may consist of traditional condition monitoring applications, such as bearing wear, but also compressor surge, equipment fouling and fault detection applications. Providing operators with key information about developing process variation gives them precious time to understand and respond to disturbances before they threaten shutdown or lost production.

In this webinar from November 2019, PPCL presents a simple, low-cost visual method based on process history which can be implemented by the trained engineer without advanced mathematics in a matter of hours. The model building is fast and easy compared with traditional condition monitoring and fault detection frameworks. It gives increased sensitivity to multi-variable variations which are the signature of developing events, allowing the process operator more time for an avoidance or mitigation response.
